Desserts are typically seen as food with a lot of sugar and little nutrients or empty calories.

That's why you have to be mindful about the desserts you eat. Choose the ones that taste great and that are good for you.

Below are some deliciously healthy dessert ideas you should try:

1. Berry Yogurt

Besides the easy preparation, yogurt and most berries are packed with fiber, vitamins K & C which makes this dessert deliciously healthy. You can try adding a variety of berries such as strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.

Blueberries contain antioxidant polyphenols called anthocyanins. According to studies, a regular intake of blueberries can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and type-2 diabetes. So next time you think about a healthy dessert that tastes good and is easy to prepare, look no further.

Berry Yogurt

Macronutrients:

  • Calories 289 kcal
  • Protein 7 g
  • Fat 12 g
  • Carbs 41 g

Ingredients and recipe:

  • 2 cups of berries (strawberry/blueberry/raspberry)
  • 1 Pint Greek yogurt
  • ¼ to ⅓ cup of honey
  • Blend the plain Greek yogurt and honey together and pour it into the cup.
  • Top it with your choice of berries.
  • You can also add some berries together with the Greek yogurt and honey when you blend them.

2. Protein peanut butter chocolate cups

Make this dessert in about 10 minutes. All you need are whey protein, dark chocolate chips, peanut butter and coconut oil.

Peanuts are known to have mono and polyunsaturated fatty acids (good fats). They are also a good source of plant-based protein. Stay away from peanut butter if you’re allergic to nuts, though. There are plenty of other tasty and healthy desserts and snacks as alternatives.

Protein peanut butter chocolate cups

Macronutrients:

  • Calories 352 kcal
  • Protein 9 g

Ingredients and recipe:

  • 1 Scoop whey protein
  • 1/3 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1/3 Cup smooth peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon Coconut oil
  • Prepare a muffin tin and paper liners. (You’ll need these in shaping the chocolate and peanut butter cups.)
  • In a bowl, mix whey protein and peanut butter together until smooth.
  • In a separate bowl, place the dark chocolate chips and coconut oil together. Put it into the microwave oven and heat until the chocolate chips melt.
  • Pour the melted dark chocolate into the muffin tin with paper liners. Pour until the muffin tin is half-filled.
  • Put some peanut butter and whey protein mix into the muffin tin.
  • Top it with additional melted dark chocolate.
  • Put it in the fridge to chill until ready to serve.

3. Cream cheese stuffed strawberry

Strawberries stuffed with cream cheese are delicious and bite-sized. Strawberries contain essential nutrients and beneficial phytochemicals. It has vitamins C and antioxidants.

For this dessert, you'll only need fresh strawberries, cream cheese, honey and nuts or dark chocolate for your choice of toppings.

Cream cheese stuffed strawberry

Macronutrients:

  • Calories 201 kcal
  • Protein 3 g
  • Fat 10 g
  • Carbs 27 g

Ingredients and recipe:

  • 2 lb strawberries
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • (optional) Use crushed unsalted peanuts/chopped blueberries/dark chocolate chips as toppings
  • Wash the strawberries well.
  • Pat them dry with a paper towel. Cut the top of the strawberries and the bottom part to make it stand up on the platter.
  • Scoop out the inside of the strawberries (just enough space for the cream cheese filling).
  • In a bowl, mix the cream cheese and honey until smooth.
  • Transfer it into a pastry bag to fill the strawberries. (If you don’t have a pastry bag, you can fill the strawberries manually by using a small spoon.)
  • Sprinkle it with your choice of topping and enjoy!
